Reader are Writers and Writers are Readers.
Wow! A simple but important concept. We dialogue ever day about how important it is to interact with our text. I love to give them the example of when I read, I am constantly taking notes. I create summaries, I make noticings about characters, I create questions all the time. This is how we engage our brains before, during and after reading. There is no difference when it comes to test taking. We utilize the same strategies because, after all, we are reading.
I am posting a wonderful example of how one student uses writing to engage her brain in thinking about her reading. It is fun to see how her brain is thinking and as I have explained to my students, this is the reason she scored well on the assessment.
Reading is fun when we are able to interact, use our reading strategies but reading is mostly fun when we feel success of knowing our writing has had a positive effect on our reading.
